Musculoskeletal soft tissues such as cartilage, tendon, meniscus, and ligament are composite biological structures that serve vital mechanical functions during activities of daily living.
Ongoing research investigations can be broadly categorized as follows:
(1) quantitative, 3D anatomic studies for the refinement of surgical techniques
(2) comparative biomechanical studies of stability and strength conferred by various surgical techniques
(3) in vivo studies of connective tissue injury and healing
(4) development and application of non-invasive imaging techniques for quantitative
assessment of tissue integrity
